Elisa screens meat samples for colistin

COLISTIN, or polymyxin E, is a cationic lipopeptide antibiotic which is effective against most Gram-negative bacilli, but its use is restricted in the EU and Japan and therefore food of animal origin should normally be tested for colistin residues.

The latest enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (Elisa) from Bioo Scientific does just that. The MaxSignal Colistin Elisa test kit is effective at screening poultry, beef, and pork samples for colistin, the company says.

The newest in its range of simple, quick, and fully quantitative Elisas to screen food samples for antibiotic contamination, it combines a proprietary colistin extraction method with stable standards to deliver what Bioo says is dependable, accurate, rapid, cost effective, and easy colistin analysis.
