Faster aflatoxin analysis in milk

THE LATEST kits in Bioo Scientific’s range of MaxSignal elisas (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) are used for the detection of aflatoxin M1 in milk and dairy products, and offer a choice of greater analysis speed or greater sensitivity depending on the kit chosen.

The MaxSignal Aflatoxin M1 Elisa kits are offered in two varieties. The mores sensitive kit, catalogue number 1060-05, promises sensitivity of 5ppt (parts per trillion) in direct milk samples. The speed kit, catalogue number 1060-02, offers reduced sensitivity of 100ppt but can be completed in just 30 minutes – 15 minutes for incubation, and a further 15 minutes for TMB (Tetramethylbenzidine). This kit can be used to analyse milk or cheese.

Aflatoxin M1 is the hydroxylated metabolite of aflatoxin B1, itself a dangerous pathogen and a known carcinogen. Detection of the M1 metabolite in dairy products is an indicator that the feedstuffs given to the cattle were contaminated with the fungus Aspergillus.

The kits are the most recent additions to Bioo Scientific’s range, which includes elisas for total aflatoxin, aflatoxin B1, T-2 Toxin, DON, Ochratoxin A, Fumonisin, and Zearalenone analysis.
