TWO NEW application notes from Analytik Jena highlight the technique of direct solid sampling for the atomic absorption analysis of nickel based alloys.
Specific trace element analysis of the alloys used to manufacture aircraft turbines is a critical quality control function in metallurgical laboratories, and helps ensure the reliability of these components.
The two application notes, available on request from Analytik Jena, cover the determination of silver (Ag), tin (Sn), copper (Cu), magnesium (Mg) and cadmium (Cd) in a nickel-based alloy, and the determination of lead (Pb), bismuth (Bi) and selenium (Se) in a nickel-based alloy respectively.
Both application notes highlight the use of solid sampling in conjunction with Analytik Jena’s ContrAA 600 high resolution continuum source furnace atomic absorption spectrometer.
This combination brings a double benefit for accurate and rapid analysis, the company says. The use of a single high intensity continuum radiation source in the ContrAA 600 makes AVAILABLE all atomic absorption lines from 190-900nm, allowing the sequential analysis of each element without the need to change lamps.
Direct solid sampling also eliminates conversion into liquid samples, and so speeds up analysis.
