ELEMENTAL analysis of halogens, phosphorus, and sulphur by oxygen flask combustion can be performed safely and economically using the OFCU-1 unit, says Exeter Analytical.

OFCU-1 is Exeter Analytical’s oxygen flask combustion unit
Oxygen flask combustion is a common preparatory step when determining bromine, chlorine, fluorine, and iodine, as well as phosphorus and sulphur.
Combustion of the material under test (usually organic) yields water-soluble inorganic products, which may be analysed for specific elements as directed in Pharmacopeia monographs or other sources.
The OFCU-1 is capable of repeatable elemental determination from percentage levels to parts per million, says the company.
The unit remotely ignites samples inside a safety chamber, using focused infrared energy from two tungsten-halogen lamps. Integral pressure vents ensure safe release of excess reaction pressure.
A thick black acrylic observation window allows users to visually confirm that ignition has taken place.
