EAGER to launch a new cell sorting system for smaller laboratories and those seeking to offer cell sorting to individual researchers, Bio-Rad will launch its S3 cell sorter in January 2013.
This is a rebadged system from Propel Labs, which Bio-Rad has acquired in a deal announced this week.
This easy-to-use benchtop sorting flow cytometer is expected to carve out a new niche for laboratory instrumentation, being smaller and more affordable than conventional cell sorting instruments.
Until now these large, complex, and maintenance-hungry devices have usually been found in shared research service facilities. Bio-Rad says the S3 will be accessible to individual researchers wishing to perform cell sorting at their lab bench.
