Compact microplate sealer handles all types and sizes

SEALING microplates is an important but routine laboratory task, usually done through the use of a microplate sealer. Many of these tools, however, are large and expensive, and require both electrical power and compressed air.

Compact footprint but high microplate sealing force: the Porvair MiniSeal

Porvair Sciences’s new MiniSeal Plus heat sealer requires only a supply of electrical power, and with a footprint about the same as an A4 sheet of paper it takes little space on the lab bench or in a fume hood.

Despite its compact size and ease of use, says Porvair, the high force applied ensures ‘unmatched’ reproducibility in sealing microplates. This semi-automatic device is controlled through a splash-proof keyboard and comes as standard with two plate adapters to enable it to effectively seal deep-well and PCR plates as well as standard and even irregularly shaped microplates from 3mm to 48mm height.

Installation time is very low, says the company, and a MiniSeal Plus can be working sealing plates within minutes of opening the box. Fast heating, with a display of sealing head temperature, makes for productive and reliable sealing. The device can accommodate most types of foil and film, heating these to between 50 and 200C.
