A HIGH-capacity cell culture system to provide large-scale production of cells is said to deliver up to 30 percent increase in yields with no increase in footprint.
The new Nunc High Density system from Thermo Scientific incorporates additional layers over the standard Nunc systems, increasing surface area and therefore yield.
The increased surface area allows greater output from each run, without requiring a larger device which would take up more space on the laboratory bench.
Available in 3-, 13- or 52- layer options, Nunc High Density give users the opportunity to achieve equivalent cell densities while increasing the total yield per system, says Thermo.
Alternatives says to achieve a similar result include using more cell culture consumables or validating new platforms, it adds.
“There is a need for improved process economics and efficient scale-up across large-scale manufacturing,” said Jill Staggert, senior product manager for production cell culture at Thermo Fisher Scientific.
“Our High Density cell factory supports that purpose while ensuring easy adoption; it’s constructed with the same materials as the standard cell factory systems, which include our Thermo Scientific Nunclon Delta cell culture surface.
“We improved productivity by adding layers, without increasing the overall height, which has increased surface area while offering potential savings in labour, decontamination and waste disposal costs.”
