PROMISING the highest performance and lowest detection limits for the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using proton transfer reaction mass spectrometry, the PTR-QMS-500 series from Ionicon is a new generation of ultra-sensitive PTR-MS online mass spectrometers.
Detection limits lower than 1pptv (part per trillion) are said to be possible with these quadrupole based systems, the successors to the PTR-MS range which Ionicon says are the world’s best-selling instruments of their type.
Chief among the improvements is the new Ionicon Ultra-Pure ion source, which the company says delivers unprecedented precursor ion intensity, enabling the PTR-QMS 500 to continuously quantify VOCs in the lowest possible concentrations.
In addition, the size and weight of the instruments has been reduced without affecting maintainability. A touchscreen display is now featured on all Ionicon instruments, and a new heating chamber layout gives easier access to the ion source.
