THE SPEAKER line-up for the annual one-day Nano4Life conference and exhibition, being held on 17 April 2012, has been confirmed. Hosted at Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst, UK, on 17 April 2012, this fourth event in the series sees presentations in four technical areas:
- Nanotechnology in bioPharmaceuticals
- Nanotechnology in regenerative medicine
- Nanotechnology in medical devices
- Clinical adoption of nanotechnology
Among the speakers, organiser the Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN) highlights Ben Hadwen of Sharp Research and Patrick Maxwell of UCL.
Ben Hadwen reflects on the rapidly emerging area of droplet microfluidics, which holds much promise for life science applications. His presentation includes discussion of a new device under development in Sharp laboratories, which exploits electro-wetting on dielectric (EWOD) phenomena in clinical diagnostics.
Professor Patrick Maxwell, Dean of Medicine at University College London, highlights where gaps in clinicians’ knowledge can provide a direction to future development of nanotechnology-enhanced medical products.
Commercial presentations from Ceram, Izon Sciences, the Royal Institution, and Surface Measurement Systems will give these organisations a platform to discuss their technologies and potentially develop collaborative links with prospective partner companies.
“Nano4Life aims to showcase the latest developments in nanotechnology and provide an environment to catalyse new collaborations,” says Dr Mike Fisher, theme manager of healthcare and life sciences at NanoKTN. “Life sciences already involve nanotechnology, and we hope to explore ways in which nanotechnology can be further developed and adopted.”
