ENERGY efficiency is a prime consideration for any laboratory these days, and freezer manufacturer New Brunswick says this has long been a priority.
The Eppendorf group company says its ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezers are the most energy-saving in the industry, and its new Hef high efficiency freezer models are the greenest of them all.
Based on competitive information and internal tests performed in September 2011, New Brunswick reckons its Hef freezers consume up to 59% less energy than competitive units. This could save thousands in operating costs over the lifetime of the freezer, and have a significant beneficial effect on a laboratory’s carbon footprint.
Lab freezers are virtually never turned off, and as a result of this and the need to maintain very low temperatures in order to guarantee sample preservation, they can present a major drain on a laboratory’s energy supply.
Hef freezers operate to -86C, claiming to minimise both energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions while providing superior sample protection.
