Miniature NMR spectrometer is ‘world first’

A NUCLEAR magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer weighing just 5kg and requiring only 20 microlitres of sample for analysis has been unveiled by Cole-Parmer.

PicoSpin 45L from Cole-Parmer - NMR spectrometry in a smaller cheaper package

The PicoSpin-45L is aimed at academic and chemistry labs, where it should provide a low-cost way of generating real-time NMR data.

The PicoSpin 45L has recently been demonstrated to lab managers in academia, research, and process industries, says Cole-Parmer. One key selling point is that it makes NMR spectrometry an affordable option for many laboratories, enabling actual NMR spectra to be obtained rather than relying on previously-published data.

“As a biochemistry teacher, I want my students to get practical experience. With this instrument, they can use NMR hands-on in chemistry lab courses and in research projects”, said Dr Sangita Roy, head of the department of biochemistry at Oxford College of Science, India.
