Control unit manages microscope imaging

THE NEW DS-L3 touchscreen imaging unit from Nikon Instruments can control both a microscope and a camera, presenting images on its 8.4-inch display.

DS-L3 control unit from Nikon has large screen for microscope imaging

The LCD touch panel has a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, to display images from the microscope camera along with control icons for the camera and a motorised microcope. The screen responds to both stylus and finger input, and employs Nikon’s Coolpix icon system.

The DS-L3 controls the major functions of the camera and microscope, including light intensity, aperture, field diaphragm, and parfocality (on motorised microscopes), while providing high colour fidelity and smoothed diagonal lines thanks to the advanced image processing functions.

The operating system includes several useful tools to enable images to be annotated, overlain with drawings, for the measurement of the distance between two points, and for calibration.

Launched alongside the DS-Fi2 camera (see our report here), it has ethernet, USB2.0, and PictBridge compatibility.
